Free Take-Home Naloxone Kits in Edmonton
Acme Drug Mart in Edmonton’s Meadowlark area is a participating pharmacy in Alberta Health Services’ Community-Based Naloxone (CBN) program. Eligible Albertans can pick up a free take-home naloxone kit at our pharmacy — no appointment needed and no prescription required.
What is in a take-home naloxone kit?
- Naloxone hydrochloride (injectable or nasal spray, depending on supply)
- Syringes (where applicable)
- Alcohol swabs
- A breathing barrier and disposable gloves
- A step-by-step instruction card
Who can pick up a naloxone kit?
The Alberta CBN program provides kits at no cost to people at risk of an opioid overdose, family and friends of someone at risk, and anyone who may witness an overdose. Eligibility details and current supply may change — call us at (780) 443-0202 before visiting if you have questions.
How to pick one up
- Visit Acme Drug Mart at 15508 87 Ave NW, Unit 103 in Edmonton during pharmacy hours.
- Speak with one of our pharmacists. The conversation is confidential.
- You will receive your kit, a brief training on how to use it, and information on what to do after administering naloxone.
Recognizing an opioid overdose
Signs of an opioid overdose include slow or stopped breathing, blue lips or fingernails, unresponsiveness to noise or touch, and pinpoint pupils. If you suspect an overdose, call 9-1-1 immediately, administer naloxone if available, and stay with the person until help arrives.
