Alberta has the most expanded scope of practice for pharmacists in North America. That means a properly authorized pharmacist can prescribe medications, assess conditions, renew prescriptions, and order lab tests. Acme has a prescribing pharmacist on staff.
Prescribe for minor ailments (UTIs, yeast infections, cold sores, allergies, eczema, and more); renew or extend your existing prescriptions when appropriate; adapt your prescriptions by changing dose, formulation, or substituting a generic equivalent; prescribe contraception including the pill, patch, ring, and emergency contraception; prescribe travel vaccines and preventive medications; prescribe smoking cessation medications and provide counselling; administer injections and vaccines; and give Schedule 1 medications when you need them and your doctor is not available.
Pharmacist assessments are fully covered by Alberta Health Care if you have a valid Alberta Health Number. There is no out-of-pocket fee for the visit.
Walk in or call to book. The pharmacist meets you in our private consultation room, asks about your symptoms or your prescription needs, and either treats you on the spot or refers you to a doctor if your case is outside our scope. Most visits take 10 to 20 minutes.
